Raymond, the department head, reached out to us in late November 2024, requesting a curated end-of-year experience—with only a seven-day window to plan every detail, from the selection of wines to the artisan cheeseboard. The scene was set: ten sharp minds, gathered on the 28th floor, looking for a moment of quiet reprieve amidst the year-end rush.
The Core Challenge
The challenge was twofold. First, the adrenaline of that tight deadline was palpable, demanding our most assured execution. More profoundly, however, was the challenge of intimacy. In a small group of ten, there is no ‘critical mass’ of background chatter to politely lower one’s guard. The atmosphere risks being quiet, sterile, or even forced. Raymond’s fear was simple and fair: Will this feel educational and engaging, or dry, academic, and ultimately, forgettable?
